FINAL PROJECT VIDEO - VIRTUAL WORLDS

Here is my project.  I apologize for it being a little late.  As you will hear my voice is still not quite back to normal after my surgery.  I hope you enjoy it.

Here is the link for my annotations, story board, etc...  Due to time constraints the narration on the video is not exactly like the storyboard.

  1. Fabulous! I really liked your use of the children using the technology. I also liked your music. The very beginning made me feel upbeat. Watching your video gave me ideas for better things I could have done with mine. I have 2 children that I could have used as I discussed my topic. The very end had kind of a long green empty space followed by credits (I think). It flew by really fast. I only mention that because I think we are supposed to find a positive and a negative. I really liked your video and your voice over made it obvious you had researched your topic very well.

    1. Thank you so much for your comment. I had a lot of fun doing this video. I never made one before. I am not sure about the empty space. After the credits there should be the soundtrack acknowledgement and the special thanks page. I wonder if something glitched during the conversion. First time doing this, who knows what could have happened. :)

  2. Hi Robin, I enjoyed watching the children's interactions with the yummiloo program. I am definitely going to try this program with my own children. I agree that virtual worlds can transform the way in which children learn. Good job!

    1. Thank you so much! The children in my childcare love the app. It is nice to know it is only the first of hopefully many to come. :)

  3. Your introduction was very eye catching and an attention grabber. The same qualities that you mentioned were the same reasons that I implemented Virtual Field trips in my class. Through this practice, the students have gotten a chance to visit places such as Gettysburg and the NASA Space station without leaving the classroom. Well Done.

  4. Thank you very much! We did a trip around the world at one point in my child care. The kids even had little passports and stamps where they visited.

  5. Robin...This is Adrian Williams and I really enjoyed you presentation introducing your keynote speaker Caroline Baron. Your use of B-roll footage and children engaged in instructional exercises made this project a fun one to view. Being the father of an elementary school aged child, I could really relate to the information you put out there. Outstanding effort with the voiceover work as well. Job well done!

  7. Hi Robin,
I really enjoyed your video! Your use of music and the adorable children added to the appeal of your video! I believe there are several advantages to using virtual worlds in the classroom. The worlds created by these environments have the ability to imitate real life situations and provide unique teachable moments. My nephew who just turned 3 on Valentine's Day uses my sister's iPad regularly to learn about numbers, shapes, colours, and topics of interest to him such as trucks and cooking.

I know the virtual world "Second Life" is a virtual space categorized by interest and topic. This flexibility has opened up many educational opportunities. This platform has allowed students to recreate archaeological sites, study languages, and facilitate field-specific training. This space allows learners to learn materials in an engaging, interactive, three dimensional format.
I look forward to the possibilities in this field. Thanks for a great video!
    Shelly :)

  9. Great video presentation on virtual worlds and projects. Children benefit greatly from participating in virtual field trips. I sponsored an event where several fifth grade classes participated in a virtual field trip experience offered through Discovery Education on a STEM topic (electricity). The students were fully engaged and seemed to enjoy the lessons. The only challenge that I faced was my connectivity and the losing this connection some time during the field experience. Technology is a great tool to use in helping students gain a deeper understanding of knowledge about concepts that are relevant to their own lives. However, when the technology fails to work properly, one needs to have a back up plan.

    1. Thank you very much! I always say technology is great to have when it is working. :) I have learned to always have a backup plan. It saves a lot of stress. :)

  10. Nice post, Robin. I think that it is truly what the student does with the technology that will make the difference. It's like anything else. It can be nicely packaged, creatively marketed, and adopted by a school or educational organization. However, with all the bells and whistles, it can still become obsolete if there is no purposeful use by students, or no creative delivery by teachers. Thanks. I enjoyed watching the Emmy aware winning performance by the main actress too. Cute!
